CinemaScope

CinemaScope is a wide-screen process using a standard motion-picture camera fitted with an anamorphic lens which squeezes a wide angle of view onto the standard 35mm motion-picture film. The image is projected through a similar lens which operates in reverse, unsqueezing the image and spreading it out over a wide, curved screen for a huge panoramic image.

The film is 35mm in width, but the frame area is somewhat different from that used for ordinary 35mm movies. It carries either a standard sound track or three magnetic tracks for stereophonic sound where theaters have been equipped with the necessary amplifiers and loudspeakers for this process.
