The Image 28 mm f/2.8

This is a Pentax mount Image 28 mm f/2.8

  • The iris has 6-blades and full stop detents

  • The Image 28 mm seems to be all plastic and is light at 179 g.

  • It has a 52 mm filter size.

At one time you could buy this lens and an Image 135 mm f/2.8 for $99. It was sort of an alternative to buying the common 70-200 mm zooms of the day. You gained over a stop greater light gathering at the expense of greater telephoto “reach”. Also the combination of two lenses hasn’t got the "closer to ideal" 90 mm portrait focal length. In its place you have a pretty useful true wide angle optic. The 28 mm f/2.8 lenses, in general, have a reputation for being sharp.

I was confused by the markings in blue at the closest focus distance. The “MACRO/ 1:4 further around the dial made me want to find some kind of detent or push’pull to get to that point. Instead it is just more description of the 0.65/0.2 focus mark. They are all the same distance—in feet, meters and finally reproduction ratio (all in blue lettering so they are grouped together).
